A new day is a new opportunity. Whether you are a new believer, a ‘baby Christian’ or someone who has been walking faithfully with the Lord for a long time, every day is an opportunity to draw nearer to God. Here are a few ways that will help you to draw closer to God.
Spending time in the word
Choose a bible that is simple for you to read and understand. For example, NLT, ESV bibles or even children’s Bible, which are great ways to start with if you are a new believer. Selecting a bible version that is simple and easy to understand can help you gain far more insight and knowledge about the word rather than choosing a bible that has words that may fly above your head. If you do not have a bible, it is easy to download a bible app on your phone or laptop which offers access to different languages and many other translations like KJV, NIV, NLT, YLT ERV and ESV bibles.
Making time to read the Bible may seem like one of the most basic instructions, but it is one of God’s most important ways for us to hear his voice. God has a word for every situation that you may be facing, and he uses his word to lead us and give us insight into all we are going through.
Meditate on God’s Word
When you feed on the word, you grow. When you grow in God’s Word, you can experience a life full of abundance and blessings. You will understand that God is greater than the highs and lows. To meditate on God’s word is studying it, pondering the words in our hearts and declaring what God has spoken over your life. Ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you as you read. Choose a verse, read it a couple of times and ask God to reveal to you what He has to say through the message you have read.
Meditating on the word helps you understand how to apply God’s word in your lives and live by it. It enables you to recognize the gifts that God has placed within you and teaches you how to use those gifts according to his purpose and plan for your life.
Be Still
We live in a world that celebrates distraction and noise. When was the last time you paused, took a break and just sat in God’s presence? Sometimes it is better to stand still to be moved into what God has for you. It is not in the doing that you draw closer to God but in the listening. God’s voice is often heard in the still, small voice of your heart. Switch away from distractions, just resting in God’s presence and thanking him for all he has done. When we listen with expectancy, we hear the voice of God. Waiting on the voice of God is a way of strengthening ourselves in him.
Practice His Presence
Pursuing the Presence of God is where we quit trying to please Him and focus on His love. In the presence of God is where we see things from His perspective. In His presence is where we receive the peace that passes all understanding and the joy that fills our life. When we practice his presence and acknowledge that he is God, we can face every trial and fear, knowing that He will provide. When you are conscious of his love, you can overcome the challenges that each day brings and live life trusting God for all that He has in store for you.
