There are many reasons why a person might wish to improve their fitness level; it might be middle age creeping up, or perhaps an athlete that is working out off-season in preparation for the next season, or just a person working from home that needs the exercise. Of course, it is important that you are physically able to undertake a level of strenuous activity, if in doubt, pay your GP a visit.
Setting fitness goals
Prior to doing anything, ask yourself what goals you have in mind; are you planning to play a sport, or are preparing for a half-marathon? Is losing weight part of the plan? The answers to questions like these will help you set suitable and realistic goals. The leading NSW gym, Genesis Health + Fitness offer a comprehensive fitness solution, with classes for every age and level and also personal training, should you prefer one-on-one.
Group classes
Unless you are preparing for a specific event, working out in a group setting is much preferred; you soon bond with classmates and the whole thing is more fun when you’re with people. The local gym would have several classes a day and at weekends, so you can choose a class that fits in with your schedule. Just turn up one early evening and see what’s going on and we should warn you that hanging around in gyms is addictive; you can feel the positive energy that every busy gym has.
Kitting yourself out
You will need a good sports bag in which to keep everything; most people work out in shorts and a T-shirt; a water bottle is a must, along with some tiger balm to soothe tired muscles. A sweatband keeps the salt out of your eyes and you will sweat! A towel, of course, a change of underwear and some deodorant and you are good to go. If you are planning on taking a shower at the gym, then you need a set of clothes as well. Click here for tips on weightloss.
